Tamil wedding invitation wording (திருமண அழைப்பிதழ்)

A Tamil invitation begins with the family deity, names the parents who invite, then the couple, the muhurtham with Tamil month and date, the mandapam, and the reception. The samples below are in Tamil script, ready to copy.

What goes on the card, in order

உ / சிவமயம் / ஸ்ரீ
The pillaiyar suzhi (உ) or the family deity's name opens the card.
அழைப்பவர்கள் — the hosts
The parents invite: 'எங்கள் அருமை மகன் / மகள் ...'. Elders are named with நல்லாசியுடன்.
மணமக்கள் — the couple
The groom as சிரஞ்சீவி [பெயர்] and the bride as சௌபாக்யவதி [பெயர்], with parents' names.
முகூர்த்தம் — date and time
The Tamil year, month and date with the English date, e.g. 'தை மாதம் 29ஆம் தேதி, காலை 9.00 – 10.30 மணிக்குள்'.
இடம் — venue
The kalyana mandapam and address. Reception (வரவேற்பு) is its own line, usually the evening before.
வேண்டுகோள் — the request
Ends with 'தாங்கள் தங்கள் குடும்பத்துடன் வருகை தந்து மணமக்களை ஆசீர்வதிக்க வேண்டுகிறோம்'.

Common questions

Should the Tamil month be written on the card?
Traditional cards give the Tamil month and date with the English date. On a digital card the English date is enough, but many families still add the Tamil month in the event name.
Is the reception before or after the muhurtham?
In many Tamil families the reception (வரவேற்பு) is the evening before. Add it as a separate event so guests see both times.
Can guests reply from the card?
